Belgrade is not a homogeneous city. Depending on the neighbourhood, you experience very different quality of life, school options, and price levels. Here is my honest assessment of the three most popular expat areas:
Vračar: The Most Popular
Quiet, green, highly sought after. Excellent restaurants and cafés, good transport links. Many international families choose this neighbourhood. Above-average rents.
Dedinje: The Exclusive Option
Villa area, very quiet, favoured by top executives and embassy staff. Expensive, limited public transport, but maximum privacy and green spaces.
Novi Beograd: The Practical Choice
Modern high-rises, many international companies based here, close to the airport. More affordable but less character. Good for shorter stays or if your employer is based there.
Recommendation: For families with school-age children, Vračar + a good international private school (e.g. BIS, QSI) is the most common and proven combination.
